ITW of SIMBA music

Meet SIMBA, which house music is going to make you dance !

SIMBA is a UK based duo that we discovered through their last EP named ' Boot To The Head ' OUT on Carton-Pâte Records since two months now. The energy coming from their sound blew our ears right away. "House is in the house", that's what you'll tell yourself when you'll listen it. SIMBA is two years old and got plenty of future ahead. We asked them a few questions for you all.

JYH - First, how about introducing yourselves, I heard they're two of you, who is Simba ?

SIMBA - Yes that's right, Myles Bossman 19 from London and Barney Hollington 21 from Cambridge :)

JYH - How did you come to produce, and how did you come to do it together ?

SIMBA - Started producing on our own to start with, both started making Drum and Bass then came to uni in Sheffield (Sheffield Hallam University) met each other and started going to a lot of House nights. Started to get inspired by House music. One day another friend from uni dropped my laptop whilst the three of us were mixing by yanking a cable. It fell and my hard drive was damaged, had get a new hard drive and many of my projects were lost as a result. Barney sent me a clip i liked which would then become 'Back Up' and i said why not put two and two together and work together. Before that point we had both started to make House.

JYH - How did you come with this artist name “Simba” and this Disney pics on your soundcloud tracks ? What’s the funny story ?

SIMBA - Haha basically i love the Lion King; it is my favourite film of all time and Simba is my faviourite character so i thought why not name this project that. Quite a cool name too i thought.

JYH - It’s been a year or two that you started producing, your first EP ‘ Boot To The Head ’ just came OUT, happy ?

SIMBA - We both started producing in 2012 properly. Both self taught and watching lots of youtube videos along the way! Very happy to final get a full release out there and big shouts to our C P Rec family, lovely people. The first of many releases hopefully.

JYH - Your soundcloud historic starts with a tribute for Skream, is it what launched you, is he a friend ?

SIMBA - Basically Skream is my inspiration. He is the person who i looked up do and wanted to be like when first getting into the game. I used to be in love with his Dubstep productions and Dj sets as well as Magnetic Man. I wanted to be just like him, dj'ing around the world and then producing swiftly followed in order to get more dj sets. I made that mix as a tribute to him because i respect everything he does and he is such a hero.

JYH - How did you come with all this support from a lot of artists, and from magazines like Trax magazine.

SIMBA - Basically just building rapport amongst dj's and producers and them feeling the tunes. It's such a pleasure and unreal to see you're heroes and massive names playing you're tracks!

JYH - How does a fresh English band like yours come to sign with a fresh French label like Carton-Pâte Records  ?

SIMBA - They heard 'Don't Look' played on Shadow Child's Rinse Fm show and got in contact as a result because they loved it. They booked us to play in France and signed a few tracks too :)

JYH - Is there a project waiting with your other label Fat! Record ?

SIMBA - Yes, got a full 4 track e.p forthcoming Fat! Records as well as a remix for a track they have released. Really looking forward to these massive releases!

JYH - Your music is really amazing. How do you define it, house ? Is that a music choice that appeared obvious when you started to produce ? What influenced you ?

SIMBA - Thank you very much for the kind words. Deep House, Techno, Tech House. Very inspired by Drum and Bass as that is the first electronic i ever listened too as well as Soul and Funk, Rnb and Hip Pop. Started making Dnb then moved into House and so happy i did! Love House and Techno so much now!

JYH - How do you produce ? What's the process ? What do you use ? Who make what ?

SIMBA - I have 2 Yamaha HS-80's, an Akai MPK-25, Mac Brook Pro Laptop, Beringher Condensor mic, Focusrite Interface and Logic. Recently topped up my studio adding a Roland Juno 106 Synthisizer and the Native Instruments Audio 6. Not everything we make is together. Anything made is just put under Simba, there are a lot of tracks not made together.

JYH - Where are you based in UK ? Is it a great place to produce music ? To play it ?

SIMBA - Sheffield at uni. This has helped massively as i DJ a lot in Sheffield and a lot of people know what i do, Dj and produce. Being at uni has given me the platform for the people to know what i do and what i'm about.

JYH - What are you listening ? What is your favorite song/artist this year ?

SIMBA - I listen to a lot of Techno and Tech House. My favourite dj's are tINI, Bella Sarris, The Martinez Brothers and Enzo Siragusa. My favourite producers are Fideles, Boddika & Joy Orbision together and Disclosure however i have many really wicked tracks produced by many different producers.

Thank you,
Simba :)
